Kakobuy fees, exchange rate and shipping, in official terms
The community says Kakobuy is “free”. The help centre says the service fee is zero, and then lists what you do pay. Both are true; only one helps you budget.
Kakobuy fee structure: what you actually pay
“No service fee” is accurate and incomplete. Here is the official breakdown, as written.

Help article 63 says Kakobuy charges no handling fee for the shopping agent service, and gives the formula: item cost plus international shipping plus customs charges. Help article 74 states it slightly differently: commodity cost (the selling price and the seller’s domestic delivery) plus international freight, a packaging fee and any optional services.
Two separate charges of CNY 8 appear in those articles: a “Packaging consumables fee” of CNY 8 per parcel (help 74) and a customs declaration cost “generally RMB 8.00” per parcel (help 63). The pages do not say whether these are the same charge. We list them separately and do not add them up.
Domestic delivery is charged once when several items come from the same seller in one purchase order (help 75), and a shortfall can be requested if the seller’s delivery or price changed (help 83).
Every Kakobuy charge in one table
Amounts in CNY are Kakobuy’s published prices as read on 10 October 2026 and can change.
| Charge | Official basis | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Item price | Seller’s listed price, in CNY | Changes with the seller; shortfalls possible (help 83) |
| Domestic delivery | Seller to Kakobuy’s warehouse | Once per seller per purchase order (help 75) |
| Inspection photos | Free (help 79) | Personalized photograph CNY 2 each (help 114) |
| Consolidation | Free (help 79) | Rehearsal / pre-pack CNY 18 (help 117) |
| Storage | Free 100 days from “in storage” (help 1) | CNY 10 per order per 30 days to extend (help 120) |
| Packaging | CNY 8 per parcel (help 74) | Extras such as bubble wrap priced per item |
| Freight | Per route, from the estimator | Larger of actual and volumetric weight |
| Insurance | Optional Kako Insurance | Covers delay, customs hold, loss or damage per route |
The free storage figure is the help centre’s: 100 days for normal packages, a reminder at day 90, 60 days for abnormal packages counted from “Signed for”. A promotional page elsewhere on the site advertises a longer period; the help centre is the operative text, so we use it.
The Kakobuy exchange rate you actually pay

Kakobuy shows prices in your chosen currency, and twelve are offered, from USD and GBP to PLN and NOK. Behind that conversion is a rate, and the rate you actually pay is not the mid-market rate.
The comparison recorded on 8 October 2026 listed an 8.5% conversion markup and no standard purchase-service fee for its Kakobuy scenario. That dated observation is not a current quote and does not include every payment-channel charge. Compare the same CNY amount with the actual amount charged and balance credited, then check which conversion and payment fees are already included.
Community comparisons that say one agent is “cheaper” often ignore this and compare only freight. Compare the total: converted item price, freight for your weight and route, and the payment surcharge.
Kakobuy shipping lines, weight rules and the rehearsal

Freight is the biggest variable, and the community word for it, “shipping”, hides dozens of lines. On 10 October 2026 Kakobuy’s estimator quoted a 1 kg ordinary parcel to the UK from US$15.76 (7 to 19 days) on the UK HG dedicated line, with the UK Air Freight Direct Line (Economy) at US$17.47 (6 to 12 days). For the US the cheapest 1 kg line was US$38.07 (11 to 17 days). These are the operator’s example values for one weight on one day; rerun the estimator before you choose.
Three line details matter more than the price. Weight floors: some lines refuse parcels below a minimum, such as 2,501 g on some HK UPS lines. Tracking gaps: the UK Economy line notes 7 to 9 days without updates. Volumetric weight: length × width × height divided by 5,000 to 8,000 depending on the line, charged when larger than actual weight. That is why the rehearsal exists, and why threads asking “is 10.2 kg normal after rehearsal” get answered with box sizes.
Insurance, customs holds and declared value

Optional Kako Insurance is selected with the parcel. Its published cover distinguishes delay, customs incidents, loss and damage, with route-specific thresholds, exclusions and claim evidence. Read the policy attached to the chosen route before paying; buying insurance does not guarantee that every delay or loss will be reimbursed.
Without it, help article 113 is plain: Kakobuy is not responsible for loss or damage caused by third-party carriers, and lists exclusions including confiscation by customs and wrong addresses. Customs inspection is random (help 35); if officers ask for invoices and the recipient does not cooperate, return or destruction costs fall on the recipient.
On declarations, Kakobuy says it declares based on the actual value and the route’s rules, and lets you add a note if you know your local rules (help 27). The community advice to “declare low” is yours to own: tax, fines and returns are borne by the buyer.
Customs inspection is the other half of the risk, and Kakobuy’s article on it is three sentences long. It is worth reading before you choose between an insured and an uninsured route.

Compare like with like before calling a parcel cheap
Keep the destination, packed dimensions, contents and insurance choice the same when comparing routes. A low rate for a one-kilogram example is not a quote for a bulky shoebox. Save the estimator assumptions, then compare them with the parcel checkout. If two charges look like the same service, ask what each line covers before adding both to your budget.
